Comforting Love

Napowrimo 2018, day 5. Today’s prompt isn’t getting me flowing so I decided to go back and use the early bird prompt. Today’s challenge is for you to write a poem in the form of a love letter . . . to an object. Ideally, the poem will be a kind of riddle, where it’s not totally obvious that the addressee is your beloved childhood pogo stick, or a dish of pad thai from your favorite restaurant, until near the end. This is a great opportunity to play with some of the clichés and tropes of love poetry. But while this kind of poem can be a great way to explore humor in verse, you might also surprise yourself with just how deep and true your feelings toward an object can be. Happy writing!

I love to lay upon you.

Feel your softness on my skin.

You take me to my dreams,

Or at least with you ,

is where my dreams begin.

You offer me such comfort.

Wrapping me in warming relief.

I love to escape to you.

Yet sometimes our time,

Seems somewhat brief.

I can be dressed or be naked,

Your not one to judge.

I look forward to being in you.

My bed,

I really do love.
