Tripping Over Time

Napowrimo 2018, Day 10. Today, we’d like to challenge you to write a poem of simultaneity – in which multiple things are happing at once.

Tripping on the rug,

The glass slipping from her hand.

Its flying through the air,

As water drops expel,

Exploding into a shower of water.

While the dog jumps up to bark,

His tail wagging excitedly at the commotion.

His legs prancing in giddiness.

The cats running for her life.

In fear and anticipation of a cold shower.

She leaps majestically onto the windowsill,

Out of harms way.

As the rain lashes the window pane.

Heavily slanting against the glass,

While grey clouds darken the sky,

Reducing visuals inside the house.

The doorbell rings.

A delivery man shivering.

Holding a parcel,

Praying you’ll answer the door quickly,

So he can escape to his car out of the rain.

And all this happens,

In the time it takes,

To trip over a rug.
