Napowrimo 2019, Day 22. Today, I’d like to challenge you to write a poem that engages with another art form – it might be about a friend of yours who paints or sculpts, your high school struggles with learning to play the French horn, or a wonderful painting, film, or piece of music you’ve experienced – anything is in bounds here, so long as it uses the poem to express something about another form of art.
I wish I could paint the pictures in my mind.
I can see it, clear as day,
What I want my picture to be.
Alas when I put pencil to paper,
My pencil will not draw the way I imagine.
I try and try and try again,
Yet it’s still never the same as in my mind.
So I write my words,
Flowing from my mind free.
Yet I still envy the artist.
For people appreciate visual arts,
Much more than the works of a poet.
